Photographic Narratives.

This workshop led by Magnum photographer Greg Halpern will allow participants to gain feedback on their developing bodies of work. Beyond group discussion and critique moderated and led by Halpern, daily lectures, slideshows and activities which relate to the lyrical documentary tradition and the unique storytelling ability of photo books will be presented in a group setting as well as during one on one time. In line with Halpern’s working trajectory, an emphasis on the  possibilities of the space between fiction and non-fiction will be a primary focus of this particular workshop.

Gregory Halpern has published seven books of photographs, including Omaha Sketchbook (MACK Books, 2019), Let the Sun Beheaded Be (Aperture, 2020) and ZZYZX (MACK Books, 2016), which won the Paris Photo/Aperture PhotoBook of the Year prize. Halpern is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Member of Magnum Photos. His photographs are held in the collections of several major museums, including the Museum of Modern Art. He holds a BA in History and Literature from Harvard University and an MFA from California College of the Arts. He is a professor of photography at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
